Mladen Kranjčec rođen je 14. ožujka 1948. u Varaždinu, gdje završava osnovnu školu i gimnaziju. Fiziku čvrstog stanja, stručni smjer, eksperimentalna fizika, diplomirao je i magistrirao na Prirodoslovno-matematičkom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Doktorsku disertaciju obranio je 1993. na Institutu "Ruđer Bošković" (IRB) u Zagrebu. Od 1975. do 1978. radi kao asistent u Laboratoriju za fiziku poluvodiča IRB-a. 1978. godine prelazi na Višu geotehničku školu Varaždin, tada odjel RGN-fakulteta Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, gdje je u početku asistent, a od 1982. predavač kolegija Fizika te od 1987. do 1994. godine predavač i kolegija Hidraulika. Nakon osnivanja Geotehničkog fakulteta Varaždin (GFV, 1991. godine) ostaje na radnom mjestu predavača do 1996. godine, kada je izabran u znanstveno-nastavno zvanje docenta. U zvanje izvanrednog profesora izabran je 2002. godine. U zvanje znanstvenog savjetnika u znanstvenom području prirodnih znanosti - polje fizika i redovitog profesora izabran je 2010. godine. Trenutno je na Geotehničkom fakultetu nosilac kolegija Fizika I i Fizika II. U razdoblju od 1986. do 2010. godine surađuje i višestruko boravi (dulje od dvije godine) u Laboratoriju za optiku poluvodiča pri Katedri za fiziku poluvodiča Užgorodskog nacionalnog sveučilišta (UžNU) u Ukrajini, Užgorodskom odjelu Instituta za nuklearna istraživanja Ukrajinske akademije nauka te Institutu za fiziku Kijevskog nacionalnog sveučilišta Taras Ševčenko. Znanstveni rad je u okviru fizike kondenzirane materije i obuhvaća istraživanja kontakta metal-poluvodič, višekomponentnih poluvodičkih spojeva, superionskih vodiča, nanostrukturiranih materijala, te optoelektroničkih materijala. Od 1978. do 2004. godine bio je vanjski suradnik IRB-a. Do sada je objavio 66 znanstvenih radova (49 radova u časopisima koje navodi Current Contents, dok su preostali radovi u SCI i INSPEC bazama). Koautor je dvije međunarodne znanstvene monografije i 7 patenta. Učestvovao na 60-tak domaćih i međunarodnih konferencija. Djeluje kao recenzent časopisa Fizika (A), A Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics (Hrvatsko fizikalno društvo), časopisa Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids (Editor: Arun Bansil, Boston, U.S.A.) te časopisa Vacuum (Editor: J.S. Colligon, UK). Stalni je član Međunarodnog programskog komiteta konferencije Clusters and nanostructured materials (CNM), International Meeting. Od 2007. godine glavni je istraživač na projektu MZOŠ-a 160-0982886-0837, Nano-efekti i utjecaji neuređenosti na materijalima za ioniku čvrstog stanja. U prethodnim projektnim razdobljima bio je glavni istraživač na još dva MZT projekta (160160 i 160004) te suradnik na projektu 00980301 IRB-a. U akademskim godinama 2002./2003, i 2003./2004. prodekan je za nastavu, a od akademske godine 2004./2005. do akademske godine 2008./2009., dekan GFV-a. Počasni je doktor znanosti (doctor honoris causa) UžNU. Inicijator je uspostavljene suradnje između UžNU i Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Član je Hrvatskog fizikalnog društva i Hrvatsko-ukrajinskog društva prijateljstva.

Mladen Kranjčec was born in Varaždin, Republic of Croatia, on 14 March 1948. He finishes primary and grammar schools in Varaždin. He is a graduate and a Master of Science in Solid State Physics from the Faculty of Science at the University of Zagreb. He defended his doctorate dissertation in 1993 at the Ruđer Bošković Institute (IRB) in Zagreb. From 1975 to 1978 he is an assistant in Semiconducting Physics Laboratory at IRB. In 1978 he is an assistant at Geotechnical Engineering College in Varaždin, then a part of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Oil Engineering of the University of Zagreb. Since 1982 he has been a lecturer in Physics. He teaches Hydraulics between 1987 and 1994. Following the foundation of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in Varaždin in 1991, he continued lecturing until 1996 when he became Senior Lecturer and a Reader in 2002. He is a Science Adviser in Technical Sciences - Physics, and a Full Professor in 2010. Presently, he holds the chair in Physics I and Physics II at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in Varaždin. Between 1986 and 2010 he collaborates and visits several times (for over than two years) the Semiconductor Optics Laboratory of the Department of Semiconductor Physics at the Uzhhorod National University (also known as UzhNU) of Ukraine, the Uzhhorod Department of the Institute for Nuclear Research of the Ukraine Science Academy, and at the Physics Institute of The National Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv, Ukraine. As a scientists, he has been active in the physics of condensed matter including research in metal-semiconductor contact, multi-component semiconductor compounds, superionic conductors, nanostructured materials, and opto-electronic materials. Between 1978 and 2004 he is a part-time collaborator with IRB. His publications so far include 66 scientific papers (49 of which are cited in the Current Contents, the rest in SCI and INSPEC bases). He is a co-author of two international scientific monographs and seven patents, and a participant in over 60 conferences at home and abroad. He is a reviewer for the Physics (A), A Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics (by the Croatian Physics Society), the Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, and the Vacuum (edited by Arun Bansil, Boston, USA, and J.S. Colligon, UK, respectively). He is a permanent member of the International Programme Committee of the Clusters and Nanostructured Materials Conference (CNM), International Meeting. Since 2007 he has been the Principal Researcher in the Project 160-0982886-0837 (Nano-Effects and Influence of Disorder on Materials for Solid State Ionics) by the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of the Republic of Croatia. Throughout the past project period he is the Principal Researcher in two more projects (160160 and 160004) for the Ministry of Science and Technology, and an associate in the project 00980301 by IRB. In Academic Years 2002-2003 and 2003-2004 he is the Vice-dean for Teaching; between Academic Years 2004-2005 and 2008-2009 he is the Dean of the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering. He is an honorary doctor (doctor honoris causa) from the UzhNU. He initiated scientific collaboration between UzhNU and the University of Zagreb. He is a member of the Croatian Physics Society and the Croatian-Ukrainian Friendship Society.
