Saša Zavrtnik graduated from the School of Mining and Chemistry in Varaždin. He gained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Veterinary Faculty, University of Zagreb. Now he is a PhD candidate in Environmental Engineering at the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Zagreb, where he works a research assistant in the Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry.

As an assistant lecturer, he holds laboratory exercises in the Chemical Lab. He also participates in the course Analytical Environmental Chemistry at the undergraduate study level and Hydrogeochemistry and Geochemistry of Soil at the graduate study level. He has worked as a co-supervisor of several bachelor and master theses. He is also an assistant lecturer in the course Positive Impact of Animals to Human Health, which is delivered in English at the Veterinary Faculty, University of Zagreb. He is a lecturer in the field of interdisciplinary technical sciences.

His expert and scientific work includes the analysis of water, soil, sediment and waste on sophisticated equipment in the Laboratory of Environmental Geochemistry. He has been an associate on several professional and scientific projects, and he actively participates in international conferences on water protection as well as holistic approach to the environment and bioethics. Saša has published six books: In the beginning there was Life, Creator’s Legacy, Healthy Relationship between Man and Animals, Laboratory for Environmental Geochemistry – historical overview of first 10 years of existence, Vibrations of Life, Disciples and Teachers as well as more scientific, professional and popular articles. He is a member of Croatian Bioethics Society.
