The professional activity of the Department of Hydrotechnics includes various projects which are carried out for the needs of state agencies, economy and private companies, and it mostly encompasses the following segments of the research on water resources:
- development and introduction of new methods of research on water resources
- protection of water resources
- management of surface and underground water according to the EU Water Framework Directive and the Croatian Water Management Strategy
- research for the purpose of finding new amounts of drinking water
- hydrogeological, hydrological and engineering geological research
- hydrogeochemical analyses and research
- agrochemical soil analyses
